The Ontario gaming regulator, AGCO, levied a substantial financial penalty against Apollo Entertainment, a provincial gambling provider. The company was cited for insufficient attention to responsible gaming practices, specifically for neglecting to adequately safeguard its users from potential harm.
Apollo apparently overlooked several responsible gaming obligations. For instance, they lacked proactiveness in recognizing and aiding players who might be susceptible to developing gambling problems. Additionally, they fell short in deploying responsible gaming mechanisms such as wagering limits or self-exclusion options for players.
Further compounding the issue, it appears their personnel received inadequate training to identify and support players grappling with gambling-related difficulties. A concerning illustration highlighted a player who incurred significant losses in a brief timeframe, yet Apollo failed to intervene.
Encouragingly, Apollo has reportedly initiated measures to rectify the AGCO’s concerns and enhance its procedures.
The Ontario regulator for alcohol and gambling, the AGCO, is emphasizing to businesses that have been notified of possible sanctions that they have the option to contest these actions. They can present their case before the Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT), an independent entity distinct from the AGCO. This process is comparable to a legal proceeding, where the LAT serves as an impartial arbiter.
The AGCO’s Chief Executive, Tom Mungham, underscored their commitment to ensuring Ontarians have access to secure and equitable online gambling entertainment. He emphasized the significant obligation of website operators to identify and assist individuals who may be exhibiting signs of excessive gambling. This proactive approach aims to mitigate potential harm and promote a positive experience for all.
