Churchill Downs Partners with SAP to Enhance Kentucky Derby Experience

The iconic Churchill Downs, renowned for hosting the Kentucky Derby, has embarked on a significant collaboration with technology leader SAP. This extensive agreement designates SAP as the “Official Technology Provider” for Churchill Downs, encompassing the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks. The partnership will center on utilizing SAP’s technological prowess to elevate the spectator journey, particularly for the much-anticipated 150th anniversary of the Kentucky Derby.

A central aspect of this alliance is SAP’s backing of the esteemed Starting Gate Suites, a collection of opulent accommodations at the racecourse. Furthermore, SAP will assume the role of presenting sponsor for the Kentucky Derby and Churchill Downs mobile applications.

Both entities have conveyed enthusiasm regarding this collaboration. Bill Mudd, President and Chief Operating Officer of Churchill Downs, underscored SAP’s worldwide reach and mutual dedication to advancement. Lloyd Adams, President of SAP America, emphasized the privilege of partnering with such a storied event and the chance to employ SAP’s knowledge to bolster Churchill Downs’ ongoing expansion.

Churchill Downs, the company, has teamed up with Sports Illustrated to unveil a special guest lounge at the Kentucky Derby. Known as the “SI Club,” the lounge will premiere on May 4, 2024, providing exceptional sightlines of the recently modernized paddock zone. This collaboration is one element of a broader $200 million modernization initiative that Churchill Downs is spearheading in anticipation of the 150th Kentucky Derby.

Separately, Churchill Downs just launched the Derby City Gaming Downtown, a fresh entertainment destination showcasing historic racing machines, wagering on equine contests and other athletic events, plus a Kentucky Derby souvenir shop. This represents Churchill Downs’ sixth historic racing machine establishment in Kentucky, generating more than 150 full-time positions for the area’s workforce.
