The Canadian province of Quebec has introduced its inaugural legal esports wagering alternative.
The Quebec Lottery Corporation, a government-regulated gambling entity, has unveiled a new esports section on its Mise‑o‑jeu sports betting platform.
The inaugural event for wagering was the DreamHack Montreal tournament, which concluded last weekend. The Quebec Lottery Corporation has indicated that other “world-class” events, including the International Dota 2 Championship, will also be accessible for betting.
Louis Boudreau, Director of Sports and Entertainment Betting at the Quebec Lottery Corporation, stated, “As esports continue to gain traction, there is a growing demand for wagering opportunities on these competitions.”
“Through Mise‑o‑jeu, the Quebec Lottery Corporation is addressing this need, providing bettors with a secure and dependable environment. We have now activated a new esports category on our platform.
“We will continue to assess interest in this type of wagering in the coming months.”
